01 — The community

After a long day of work, we play to relieve stress — to laugh and play with friends.

Families arrive together — a game for the parents, coaching for the kids, tea and momos for everyone in between.

Membership is open to Bhutanese residents and to visitors staying for work or visiting as tourists. Booking a court here is the fastest way to actually experience sport in Bhutan.

02 — The setting

Most people come to Bhutan for the pristine mountains, the alluring forests and Bhutan's culturally vibrant people. You can experience all of it from Court 1.

The National Tennis Centre resides near the great Thimphu river by Changlimithang Stadium — ringed by blue-pine forest and the eastern Himalaya, it is a beautiful setting for a daytime or evening match.

The cool evening breezes even in the summer months are hard to find anywhere else on earth. You can literally play year round.

Are you here for a short season — a posting, a project, or a quick tour? We have memberships and accept walk-ins, so you can see a side of Bhutan most visitors never do.

Tennis reached Bhutan in the 1970s; the Federation was founded in 1983. Four decades on, these are the courts where the national team trains — and where anyone can sign up for a game.

Where Bhutanese tennis is headed.

A ten-year national development framework built on nine strategic pillars — from governance and coaching to infrastructure, competition and tennis tourism. Junior development isn't a side programme; it's the point: Little Champs, winter camps, school outreach, and a pathway that empowers our youth to aspire for an ITF ranking.

Foundation

Build the systems, upgrade the facilities, take tennis into schools and form the first partnerships.

  • 1,000+ children a year

  • 3,000+ children a year
  • 10+ ITF courts
  • 5 ITF-ranked juniors

Phase 3 · 2034–2037

  • 15+ ITF courts
  • 8+ ITF-ranked players
5,000+Children introduced to tennis every year
